Many of the beauty looks spotted at New York Fashion Week were intricate and would be almost impossible to recreate at home. But one of them, which was conceptualised by the popular cosmetics brand MAC for The Blonds’s spring/summer 2024 runway looks, is easy to DIY. Known as siren skin, it’s a toned-down, subtler way to tap into the #mermaidcore aesthetic that has been dominating the beauty world this year. This was largely because of the release of the live-action Little Mermaid movie.
Getting glossy
After seeing this NYFW trend, one beauty content creator decided to replicate it. And she posted a video showing how she did it. All you need are two products – some fine, loose-pigment eye glitter and MAC Strobe Cream. If you don’t have this iconic product (you should!), any illuminating face cream or body lotion will do the trick.
You can use any colour glitter you want. While green, blue and purple hues are reminiscent of sirens, you can use more neutral shades for a more versatile look.

Mix some of the glitter or fine pigment into your cream or lotion and apply it to your skin. Don’t add too much shimmer or your lotion will become gritty. Instead, start slow and add more if necessary.
While perhaps a bit bold for an everyday look, the siren skin trend is the *perfect* way to bring some shimmer to your festival and party season.
