How To Find The Best Nude Lipstick For Your Skin Tone

nude lipstick

There are tons of different lipstick shades on the market, ranging from classic reds to dark, gothic black and everything in between. Not every day, however, calls for a standout, vibrant lip. On the days when you want to draw attention to another area or want a more natural look, nude lipstick is the way to go.

This sounds simple enough – but have you ever tried shopping for it? With so many skin tones out there, nude shades are all relative and there are plenty to choose from. So how do you find the one that suits your complexion the best? Here’s how to find the perfect nude lipstick, according to your skin tone (and our picks for you to shop online or at your nearest Edgars store).

Fair skin tone

People who have fair skin not only burn easily (which makes living under the harsh African sun a challenge!), but are more prone to redness in general. This can be subtly neutralised by wearing a nude lippie that has cool undertones. Formulas with an orange or yellow undertone can make pale skin tones appear sallow and sickly – no thanks! Light rosy pinks and apricot shades are also great options and can warm up the complexion.

Medium skin tone

Ranging from olive to caramel and more, the medium-skin-tone category has a lot of diversity. This means that people who fall into this range have quite an extensive shade selection to choose from when it comes to finding their forever nude, and many of them will be equally flattering. As this complexion has warm undertones, we recommend rosy pink or peach for lighter looks and berry and brown hues for a more sultry finish.

Dark skin tone

While people with dark skin were limited in the past when it came to shade selection, brands are *finally* starting to release more inclusive ranges. Like medium skin tones, there is much variation among dark skin, too. Don’t go too light as this can make your make-up appear unnatural. Rosy hues can work well, but they need to have a deeper base, such as hints of berry. Browns are another fabulous choice that can accentuate natural beauty.
