Your Step-By-Step Guide To Creating A *Flawless* Smokey Eye

A beauty look that has many iterations but continues to reign supreme is the smokey eye. It is versatile to wear, can be done using almost any colour palette and gives a smouldering finish to any face beat. It’s edgy and the antithesis of clean-girl make-up.

Clearly, this look remains popular, as over 21 million people have searched for how to master it on Google in recent months. Learning how to create this look on yourself is empowering and not as complicated as you might think.

Here’s how to do it in five simple steps. You’re welcome!

Step #1: Prep the base

If you struggle with creases in your eyeshadow or have oily eyelids, apply a primer before you start with the make-up. Then, use a mid-tone eyeshadow all over your eyelids as your base shade. Browns and greys work well for this layer.

Step #2: Line your eyes

The next thing to do is to add eyeliner. Why? This will add more definition and depth to your look. Liners with a soft texture, like a kajal formula, are best because you need to diffuse it afterwards with a make-up brush for a smokey effect.

Step #3: Add dark eyeshadow

Now it’s time to amp up the smokiness of this popular application. Apply your dark shadow from the outer corners and halfway into your lid, diffusing the edges for a soft, seamless finish. Apply it on your lower lash line and smudge with your fingers.

Step #4: Apply your mascara

Do any final touch-ups to the dark eyeshadow. Then, it’s time for the finishing touches, namely mascara. Since you are wearing a dramatic eye look, we recommend adding a few layers of mascara to boost the volume of your lashes.

Step #5: Add some flair

You could finish at step four if you want a simple smokey eye look. If, however, you want to add even more pizazz, you can use your finger to apply a lighter shimmery shadow in the middle or inner corners of your eyes for a luxe finish.
