There’s no escaping it: at a certain age, we all start to develop wrinkles.
While this doesn’t make us *any* less cute, it is still something that many people struggle to come to terms with. It occurs because, after the age of 25, our bodies produce less collagen – the protein responsible for elasticity. This is probably why, when it comes to beauty trends, there are plenty out there to do with ageing. The latest one is known as face taping.
What is face taping?
The face-taping trend first emerged in 2022 and initially was not a beauty treatment. Rather, it was a wellness treatment designed for lymph drainage. But, when TikTok got its hands on it, a new beauty trend was born.
How does it work? Fans of face taping apply tape – or plasters – to their face on areas where they want to appear smoother. The idea behind it is that it limits facial movement while you sleep to delay the onset of expression lines. So not unlike Botox, but with a shorter lifespan and no needles! Admittedly, this would be a schlep to do every night. Most people who follow this trend repeat this process every night for a week, sometimes more (and many of them record their progress and claim to see results).

Is there legitimacy to face taping when it comes to wrinkle prevention? Maybe. But it requires a lot of commitment and you run the risk of terrifying whoever sleeps next to you. If that sounds like something you can handle, give it a try and see how your skin reacts. Who knows? It might become your new favourite bedtime ritual!
