Here’s Why The Fat Water Toner Serum Is A Fenty Skin Holy Grail

Fenty Skin Product Shelf with Fat Water

We first trialled Fenty Skin’s much-buzzed-about Fat Water immediately after the brand’s long-awaited arrival on African shores. Prior, we had heard rave reviews about it from friends and fellow beauty lovers abroad, and after testing it out ourselves for eight months straight (talk about commitment!), we’re here to confirm that this dew-boosting goo should NOT be slept on! Here’s why…

What is it?

In a nutshell, Fat Water is a 2-in-1 non-comedogenic toner and serum hybrid. For those who aren’t familiar with the differences between serums and toners – let’s go back to basics real quick:

Serums vs. Toners

Serums form the backbone of your routine and carry your future skin goals on their tiny little backs. This is because they help deliver an intense dose of active ingredients to combat specific skin woes, hence why they must be applied in the earlier stages of your routine, so they penetrate the skin deeply. Toners, on the other hand, work to prep and prime the skin. There’s a wide variety available in the market right now tailored for all skin needs, but overall, they help rebalance your skin’s pH levels and replenish any moisture lost post-cleansing.

So what makes Fat Water so unique?

Well, it merges the best perks of a serum and toner, and over time, it visibly fades dark spots, keeps excess shine in check, and brightens, plumps, and smoothens your complexion overall. It’s also formulated with one powerful posse of skin-brightening and evening ingredients – these include:

  1. Barbados Cherry – an epic skin-brightener ‘loaded with more vitamin C than an orange.’
  2. Niacinamide, which works wonders for discolorations and uneven skin tone, all while boosting your skin’s lipid barrier and refining the look of your pores.
  3. Australian Lemon Myrtle is another wonderful ingredient for breakout-prone skin as it tackles surface oil and aids in clearing and tightening bump-inducing pores.
  4. Japanese Raisin Tree is a top-tier detoxifier traditionally used in Asian medicine to recover hungover skin.
  5. Green Tea and Fig for a daily supply of antioxidants to ward off the damaging effects caused by environmental stressors.
  6. And lastly, Cactus Flower, packed with vitamins and minerals, is highly effective in hydrating and quenching thirsty skin.

Our verdict?

After drenching our skin in this juicy liquid for a solid eight months, we cannot envision our AM and PM routines without it! Like ALL skincare products, consistency is key, so allow at least one to two months of regular use to see noticeable results. I used Fat Water in conjunction with the Fenty Skin Total Cleans’r Remove-It-All Cleanser and the Hydra Vizor Fragrance-Free Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen with Niacinamide + Kalahari Melon. With daily use, my complexion has become visibly brighter and more uniform, with baby-soft smoothness and bounce! 10/10 recommend this for skincare minimalists.
