You may have noticed that recently there has been a return to grunge make-up. This trend was born in the nineties and has made a major comeback just in time for 2023. This is thanks in part to the hit series, Euphoria, which has been a big influence in the beauty world since it started in 2019.
While we’re not suggesting that you attempt to rock the famous glitter-tears look (it should really be left to the pros!), there are other ways to experiment with this soft-grunge trend. Here are the items you’ll need.
1. Eyeliner
The foundation of any grunge make-up look is dark, smudgy eyeliner. For a soft take on the trend, you can opt for a lighter shade, such as blue, green or purple. The best formula to use is kohl as these liners offer the stability and precision of a pencil but are easy to blend.
2. Eyeshadow
After you have applied your eyeliner, it’s time to go in with some colour! Or not! A classic take on this trend is to use black and grey-hued eyeshadow. But, just like your liner, you can experiment with different shades and even blend them with black for an ombré finish.
3. Mascara
To finish off a grungy look, you need a few lashings of mascara. Go for a pitch-black shade to pair with your dark liner and make your lashes more defined. Apply a few coats to add thickness. Fortunately, for this trend, you don’t need to worry too much about smudging or clumping!
4. Glitter
To finish off a modern grunge make-up look, your last step should be to add some shine! Apply loose glitter with skin-safe glue or blend a shimmery eyeshadow into your eyelids. If you are using a liquid glitter, apply it using a separate brush so the product doesn’t get contaminated with eyeshadow.
