Pssst… Have you heard? The Pantone Colour of the Year for 2023 was announced at the end of last year. And it’s a shade that offers versatility when it comes to beauty looks. It’s called Viva Magenta and it’s here to bring some bold colour to the 12 months that lie ahead.
Make way for magenta
Each year, the world’s colour authority selects a Pantone Colour of the Year which sets the tone (or, in this case, the hue) that will dictate the mood and style of the next 12 months. The one that has been selected to represent 2023 is 18-1750 Viva Magenta.

The reason that this bright red-pink colour has been chosen is that it’s loud, fearless and joyful. While rooted in nature – something we are all connected to – it signals strength and optimism – something we all want more of in 2023! Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, says: “PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta reconnects us to original matter. Invoking the forces of nature, it galvanises our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.”
Many past shades haven’t really been appropriate for many make-up looks. Viva Magenta, however, offers tons of versatility in the beauty space. It works well for manicures and as a vibrant lip colour. It also works just as well as a blush or eyeshadow or for creating monochromatic looks.
