The New Blush Rules
Make-up artists at the international fashion weeks earlier this year followed just one rule – go big or go home. Celebrity make-up artist Mario Dedivanovic – he of Kim Kardashian fame – chalks it up to post-Covid energy. “We’re more attracted to bright, daylight, happiness – basically anything that’s not dark and inside,” he tells Refinery29. “When it comes to make-up, people want to look sun-kissed and healthy, and you can create that effect using a bit of blusher.”

How To Wear Your Blush
Director of make-up artistry at MAC, Terry Barber agrees: “Blusher is having a big moment. I think blusher has become more important than contour. It’s this idea of health and freshness. I like it when it looks a bit outdoorsy, when it’s higher up the cheeks and a little bit more to the front. And then I like to sweep whatever’s left on the brush down the bridge of the nose. I also love these blush tones on the eyes and lips. You’re transforming your face, but you don’t see a lot of products or lines or contours. It’s a less structured look.” And how much exactly is “a bit of blusher”. Well, when you think you’ve applied enough, add a little more.
