A fresh way to flush

This technique was coined and is frequently used by YSL BEAUTÉ international make-up artist J. Brandon Correa. He revealed his blush application secrets at a recent brand launch event. It relies on the art of layering – something that is already prevalent in the beauty world, for example, scent layering and layering mascara to amplify volume.

In order to try this technique, you need at least two, but ideally three different shades of blush. One should be a bright shade, one should have a deeper tone and one should match your natural flush. The bright one should be applied first and to the planes of your cheeks. Slightly below that, add the deeper hue, followed by the natural shade next to them and slightly inward towards the centre of your face. Blend the colours together with a soft brush in figure-eight motions for a seamless finish.

While the creator admits that cream and liquid blush formulas are better for this type of application, you can still use powder formulas to achieve it. Then all you need for an all-over dewy finish is to spritz some hydrating make-up setting spray over your face and you’re ready to flaunt your cascading colours!
