What makes the perfect lipstick? In our opinion, it’s a long-wearing formula that doesn’t budge at all, with minimum reapplications required. By 5pm, it should still look as good as new (no matter how many coffees you’ve had throughout the day).
Matte formulas hold much longer than sheen lipsticks, but if you aren’t a fan of a matte lippy, don’t despair. We’ve done the groundwork and found the best long-wearing lipsticks with matte formulas that stay for days (literally) and won’t dry your lips out. Each lipstick has a creamy formula designed to nourish your pout.
Here are our top finds…
RAVISHING REDS
Ultra lightweight but highly pigmented formulas make up this collection of ravishing reds.
EVERYDAY NUDES
Neutral nudes are undoubtedly the most wearable lipstick shade of them all. These matte long-wearing lipsticks won’t dry out your lips because of their rich, nourishing formulas containing ingredients like vitamin E!
Lip Tip
Enhance your lipstick’s colour with a few applications of the Inglot Hold On Lip Primer. It helps with lipstick application and moisturises the lips thanks to the cotton-seed oil, vitamin E and shea butter found in the formula.
LIPLINER 101
Lipliners prolong the wear of any lipstick by creating a barrier between the lipstick colour and skin. It prevents bleeding, enhances pigment and adds perfect precision, which makes the lips look fuller.
You can also use your lipliner as you would a lipstick and colour in your lips. It’ll stay put all day. Remember to sharpen your lipliner to keep the tip defined.
WE LOVE:
In order for any lipstick to look its best, it’s essential to keep your lips prepped at all times. These are our tips to maintaining a perfect pout.
EXFOLIATE: Scrub your lips no more than twice a week in order to avoid irritation. Exfoliating rids your lips of flakiness and keeps them smooth for product application.
MOISTURISE: Choose a hydrating lip balm with nourishing properties to apply to your lips each day. This will keep your lips soft and lipstick-ready.
BLOT, BLOT, BLOT: Believe it or not, blotting is a step we often overlook once we’ve applied our lipstick. The benefit of blotting is that the pigment of the lipstick is pressed deeper into the lips and results in a longer-lasting colour. Plus, it feels better getting the excess lipstick off too.
FILL IN YOUR LIPS FIRST: If you’re still battling to make your lipstick stay, fill in your lips first with a lipliner and then apply your lipstick. The lipliner’s waxy consistency will bind with the lipstick and stay put for longer.
