We’re here to give a shout-out to serums because a good facial serum has the ability to transform your skin in a matter of weeks. They’re usually lightweight in texture and have a high concentration of active ingredients that target specific skincare concerns. We suggest applying your chosen serum to cleansed, damp skin, as the moisture on the skin allows for better product absorption. If your regular product is no longer doing the trick, slot one of these serums into your routine… We’ve listed them according to skin type to make things super simple.
Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide Capsules Line Erasing Night Serum
Skin type: All (except sensitive skin types)
Helps with: Ageing, collagen stimulation, boosting moisture, smoothing skin texture and evening skin tone.
How to apply: Each capsule has been designed to house the perfect dosage of product to apply to your face and neck each night. We give this serum 10/10 for convenience. Simply twist the capsule, squeeze out the formula and apply.
Top tip: Any product containing retinol needs to be applied at night before bedtime. Be sure to apply SPF the next morning, as your skin becomes more light sensitive. Retinol should be the main active ingredient, with the likes of vitamin C and AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) and BHAs (beta hydroxy acids) taking a backseat for now.
Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength Dark Circle Reducing Vitamin C Eye Serum
Skin type: All (especially those with hyperpigmentation)
Helps with: Dark spots, puffiness, skin texture, fine lines and plumping the skin around the eye area.
How to apply: After giving the skin a thorough cleanse, take two pumps of the serum and distribute it evenly across the eye area. Start along the orbital bone, moving from outwards in. Use daily in the mornings and evenings.
Top tip: Pat the serum into the skin using your ring finger. This will give the most gentle pressure. Don’t apply the product to your eyelids.
Givenchy Skin Perfecto Serum
Skin type: Dry, dehydrated and mature
Helps with: Radiance, brightness, hydration, fine lines, wrinkles and fatigued skin.
How to apply: Without warming up the formula, apply one to two drops of the serum to your fingertips. This will help maintain the product’s freshness. Inhale the scent of the serum by placing your two palms over your nose. Using upwards strokes, apply the lightweight product over your entire face, moving from the centre outwards. Lightly pinch your skin – start at the jawline then move to the cheeks and brows. Once absorbed, pat the skin gently to boost circulation.
Top tip: In order to see results, be consistent with your routine. Don’t skip days in between.
Lancôme Renergie Ultra Triple Serum
Skin type: Mature, dry
Helps with: Volume-loss, wrinkles and dark spots.
How to apply: Shake the bottle and press down on the bottle’s pump dispenser until you see the three different serum formulas appear. Mix them together until they’re blended into a single formula. Apply it onto freshly cleansed skin, followed by your moisturiser.
Top tip: The hero ingredients of this serum are hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, niacinamide and ferulic acid. If your routine already involves retinol, it’s best not to use this product.
Clarins V Shaping Facial Serum
Skin type: Combination, oily and dry
Helps with: De-puffing, hydration, sculpting, slimming and overall radiance.
How to apply: Take a small amount of the serum and warm it in your hands. Apply gently to your face and neck. Apply pressure to the cheeks, forehead and side of the neck. Do this motion three times.
Top tip: This special serum was designed to assist with draining excess fluid in the face and reducing puffiness. Start and end your day with this routine to ensure your skin is properly treated.
Erborian Ginseng Super Serum
Skin type: Mature
Helps with: Ageing (particularly fine lines and wrinkles) and tightening of the skin.
How to apply: After double cleansing, apply one pump of the serum to your skin. Use it morning and night, followed by your moisturiser or SPF.
Top tip: This serum contains several ingredients of natural origin, so store your product in a cool area, free from direct sunlight. Keep it in a drawer, cabinet or box to slow down the breakdown of the serum’s active ingredients.
