There are always new fragrances being designed and launched, but classic scents have been around for *ages* and have been best-sellers ever since. Here are the ones to add to your fragrance collection.
Givenchy Amarige
First hitting the shelves all the way back in 1991, this fragrance is a timeless feminine one. The name is an anagram of the French word mariage, which translates to “wedding”. It has fruity-floral notes of Mandarin orange, plum, neroli and orange blossom at the top, mimosa, gardenia, rose and jasmine in the middle, and vanilla, amber, sandalwood and cedar at the base.
DIOR J’Adore
Apparently, when Christian Dior first saw models in his designs, he exclaimed “j’adore!”. This is what inspired the name of this prestigious beauty and fashion house’s signature scent for women. Launched in 1999, it’s modern and glamorous. It has fruity notes at the top, namely pear, melon, peach and bergamot. In the middle, it has jasmine, tuberose, freesia and rose notes and base ones of vanilla, cedar and musk.
Michael Kors Wonderlust
While this amber-floral fragrance was only launched in 2016, it has been popular since then and remains a top seller. This perfume – along with the others in the collection – was designed for the jet-setter that lives in all of us. As for its notes, at the top are almond milk, pink pepper and bergamot, in the middle are heliotrope, jasmine and carnation, and it’s rounded off with sandalwood, cashmere wood and resins.
DKNY Women
Another beloved scent that hails from ‘99, this fresh fragrance was the first urban-floral creation designed to capture the true essence and spirit of New York City. It has top notes of tomato leaf, orange and apricot and in the middle is an array of flowers, including water lily, jasmine, ylang-ylang, rose and orchid. At the base are woody and earthy accords of birch, suede, patchouli, sandalwood and amber.
Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue
Fresh, zesty and oceanic is what this best-selling fragrance – which has been around for over 20 years – radiates. It has crisp notes of lemon, apple, cedar and bellflower at the top, bamboo, jasmine and white rose in the middle and (more) cedar, musk and amber at the base. According to the brand, the bottle’s light-blue cap is a homage to the clear summer skies over the Mediterranean Sea.
Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium
Another newer perfume, having launched in 2014, this gourmand fragrance is considered a signature scent by many! And it’s not just the sparkly bottle that’s to love here, but the interesting blend of accords. Top notes include pear, pink pepper and orange blossom, and the middle ones are jasmine, bitter almond, coffee and liquorice. Finally, there are notes of cedar, patchouli, cashmere wood and vanilla at the base.
Versace Eros Pour Femme
This perfume was designed to encapsulate the beauty and strength of women. It must have worked because it remains as popular today as it was when it first hit shelves in 2014. Categorised as a floral-woody-musk scent, it is made up of top notes of lemon, bergamot and pomegranate, and middle notes of jasmine, peony and lemon blossom. To round off the base, there are notes of musk and different woods.
Hugo Boss Femme
Created for the modern woman all the way back in the year 2000, this sparkling scent is all about embracing confidence, sensuality and femininity. Cheerful and romantic, it has top notes that include tangerine, freesia and blackcurrant. In the middle you’ll experience a white floral heart with Madagascan lily, jasmine and Bulgarian rose notes and then, to finish it off, lemon tree wood, apricot and amber at the base.
