These Smart Hacks Will Make Your Lips Appear Plumper

Some of us are born with a naturally plump pout. Others, however, are less blessed in this area. While some people decide to get fillers for a more permanent (or, at least, long-term) solution, others rely on their beauty products and make-up application to fake their way to juicy lips. Here are four hacks that will make your mouth the main character.

HACK #1: Buff and balm

Fact: Dry, flakey lips don’t look as plump as healthy, hydrated ones. This is why scrubbing your lips regularly is a good idea. You can use a lip scrub or you can make your own using granulated sugar, honey and olive oil. It’s also crucial to nourish your pout with a lip balm after exfoliating and underneath your make-up to keep them moisturised.

HACK #2: Go for gloss

An easy way to make your lips look more plump is to add some shine to reflect the light. This can be achieved by topping your lipstick with a gloss. Alternatively, you could wear a lip oil – with or without a sheer wash of colour – on your bare lips for a juicy finish. There are some colour formulas that contain ingredients that temporarily add some volume.

HACK #3: Line with care

We have the Kardashian-Jenner clan to thank for this hack, which has become commonplace in the beauty world. What they do to exaggerate the size of their pout is to use their liner strategically by lining just outside of the natural lip to give the appearance of fuller lips. This should be done in the same shade as your lip colour for the effect to be visible.

HACK #4: Add some shine

We know that gloss can make lips appear more plump. And so can adding a shimmery highlighter or eyeshadow to your lips. Don’t just apply a dab and walk out the door, though – it needs to be blended so that a subtle ombre effect is created. This adds dimension to your lips, which, in turn, makes them look more full. Finish with a slick of gloss and voilà!
