If you haven’t hopped onto the Fenty Skin bandwagon, boy, you (and your skin) are missing out! The post-pandemic era has shown a shift towards skinimalism as consumers streamline their beauty arsenals. This has resulted in the current wave of hybrid formulations, as beauty lovers now seek items that offer more than one use.
Multitasking items are a huge part of Fenty Skin’s brand DNA – consider their Fat Water and Hydra Vizor formulations, for instance, which are marketed as toner-and-serum and moisturiser-and-sunscreen hybrids. The newest kid on the Fenty block is their much-talked-about Hydrating Milky Toner Essence, and as a fan of their original Fat Water serum, I was eager to find out how this toner-essence compares to the OG. Read on for a thorough lowdown on Fenty’s newbie…
Fat Water’s new sibling is a juicy and milky toner-essence. If you aren’t familiar with essences, these water-based liquids gained popularity in the West thanks to the global K-Beauty movement. Essentially, these formulas are like a tall glass of water that work to rebalance and replenish hydration in the skin. Like a serum, an essence’s low molecular weight allows it to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin. And because this gem combines the perks of an essence (to hydrate) and a serum (to treat), it not only restores and protects your skin’s moisture barrier but delivers some skin-loving actives too.
What is in it?
It’s infused with several star ingredients, including:
- Hyaluronic acid – the industry-hailed hydrator to quench thirsty skin.
- Tamarind – a natural exfoliator that boosts hydration and keeps excess sebum at bay (making it a noteworthy hydrator for oily skin).
- Mineral PCAs – these are humectants that draw and hold onto moisture.
- Panthenol – an amazing hydrating agent that’s proven to lessen transepidermal water loss, so it not only delivers moisture but retains it, too.
- Niacinamide boosts the skin’s lipid barrier, keeps excess oil production in check and works wonders for discolorations and uneven skin tone.
The verdict?
It’s totally worth the splurge! I love love love its lightweight texture – my skin sops up every drop, and it leaves it with a well-hydrated look and feel. I particularly enjoy the instantaneous dewy effect it creates and after four weeks, I’ve noticed that my skin looks softer and more supple, particularly when used in conjunction with the Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer SPF 30 and an additional two-fingers-worth of SPF daily (I use Eucerin Sensitive Protect Sun Crème SPF 50 religiously!).
