Go into the shops today and you will be met with every nail polish colour under the rainbow. It wasn’t always like this, though. Back in the day, nail shades were very limited to the pink and red range and didn’t have the same finishes and lasting power as formulas do now.
As we know, beauty trends come and go. The same goes for the colours that we pick for our manicures and pedicures. There are, however, some shades, both old and new, that have become anytime staples we can rely on. Here are four of them.
1. Red
When you really don’t know what to wear, you can always turn to classic red. Despite it being a bold primary colour, it won’t clash with your outfit. It gives it a classy, polished finish instead. Red with an orange undertone can also make your hands look more youthful by neutralising the appearance of veins.
2. Beige
This nail shade didn’t really exist much before the 90s, taking off in the early 2000s. While it hasn’t been around as long as pinks and reds, beige, or tan, on your nails has become a modern classic. Being a muted colour, it won’t distract from your make-up or outfit, but will make you look put-together.
3. Black
While this shade may have been associated with various subcultures over the decades, it is now widely accepted as a timeless and versatile nail colour. It can be dressed up or down, as it’s slick enough for any occasion. They are striking and stand out, but in a classy way.
4. Light pink
A long-time favourite of the late Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the Royal Family, light-pink nails are a barely there colour that elevates your natural skin tone. Soft and delicate, this shade doesn’t compete with the rest of your outfit or make-up. Instead, it just neatens up and enhances your nail bed.
