Although they have heaps of benefits, for some people, the thought of applying a facial oil is intimidating. A good facial oil could be the missing link in your skincare routine, but it’s important to find the correct one for your skin type. Applying the oil to your skin properly is also an essential step.
The main function of a facial oil is to protect, nourish and repair your skin’s moisture barrier, much like a sealant. Moisturisers, on the other hand, provide the skin with hydration. Don’t replace your moisturiser with a facial oil. Instead, let them work hand in hand to create your glowiest complexion possible. Most oils contain plant extracts and antioxidants that help with concerns such as dullness or dryness. They also have non-comedogenic botanical oils, which don’t clog up your pores.
Serums and facial oils are similar. They both have liquid, concentrated formulas that provide adequate nourishment to the skin. If you use both, rather use your serum in the morning and your facial oil at night. Two to three drops of your facial oil is more than enough to cover your entire face. However, if you decide to use your facial oil in the day, apply your moisturiser first, followed by your facial oil and then, lastly, your sunscreen.
Always wait two to three minutes until your facial oil has absorbed the skin properly before applying your next product. Make sure your facial oil is stored in a cool area, away from direct sunlight and heat to prolong its shelf life.
