Over the last two years, we have seen a significant increase in at-home, spa-like experiences. Participating in #selfcaresunday, understanding our skin’s needs, and getting to know skincare products has never been more popular. I’m a sucker for a skincare gadget and was super excited to learn about the AfriDerm® AfriScience Multicare System, which is an all-in-one tech device that uses five essential skincare concepts to present the ultimate non-invasive skin rejuvenation. Here’s how to include this device and light therapy at home.
The five essential skincare concepts
- LED light energy can be used to even out skin tone and treat acne-prone skin.
- Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) is a treatment that stimulates collagen and reduces fine lines and wrinkles.
- Mesoporation delivers active ingredients to every layer of the skin.
- Electroporation transports hyaluronic acid and collagen even deeper into the skin.
- Radio frequency (RF) boosts collagen production.
What does light therapy do for my skin?
Afriderm is specially formulated for darker skin tones. Everyday factors like bug bites, sun damage, cuts, and stress can lead to uneven skin tone and pigmentation. This device is designed to even out skin tone, shrink pores and cleanse and purify the skin, while also providing vital nourishment and boosting natural collagen production. It also treats UV damaged skin and smooths fine lines and wrinkles. It reduces visible signs of ageing while calming and healing acne-prone skin.
Put on your robe and start your spa experience
At the end of a busy day, there is nothing more satisfying than winding down with your skincare routine and creating a relaxing environment in which to indulge in some much-needed #selfcare. Once you’ve cleansed your face, pat it dry before applying the AfriScience Vital Energy Face Cream to your face and neck, evenly with your fingertips in a light circular motion. The specially formulated cream contains special ingredients that work in perfect synergy with the AfriScience MultiCare LED lights to enhance its effectiveness. Direct the LED device for three minutes onto each target area before moving on to the next. For best results, use this three to four times per week.
The five colours of light therapy
Skincare products have active ingredients in them, and using them in conjunction with light therapy can be extremely beneficial if used correctly. There are five light settings which target different skin concerns. Understanding these means that you can target your specific skin needs easily.
Red Light – offers benefits like wrinkle reduction and an overall younger appearance by boosting cell regeneration. This causes the skin and tissue just underneath to grow more quickly, replacing dead skin cells and filling in gaps that cause wrinkles. It also reduces inflammation.
Blue Light – works mainly by targeting bacteria and is primarily used to treat acne and prevent scars.
Yellow Light and Pink Light – are used to increase wound healing, collagen induction, skin hydration, and the overall health of the skin by clearing pores.
Green Light – helps to lighten hyper-pigmentation spots, revealing a brighter complexion. The calming effect also has anti-inflammatory properties that soothe the surface of the skin.
Important Tip: It is always recommended to wash and cleanse your face before using this device. Certain products can affect its effectiveness. Sunscreen is designed to block UVA or UVB light, but it also blocks other less harmful forms, such as LED light. So, even though red and infrared light do not contain UV, the treatment will not be 100% effective as it will not penetrate make-up or skincare containing SPF.
Once you have completed a few minutes of the LED treatment, using an anti-ageing night cream or serum after your light therapy session may speed up the results. Other products that are great after LED treatments are products containing peptides, retinol, vitamin C, or argan oil.
LED light therapy has countless benefits, and what may have started as a trend has become a skincare must-have. It’s never too LIGHT to try something new.
